The original farmhouse was purchased by a local family and we were approached to review the existing layout with the intention of possibly extending the property. Typically of a dwelling of this type the principle rooms were large but the kitchen was hidden to the rear of the property. This resulted in an attractive front façade alongside a disjointed ‘back of house’ furnished with a number of more recent additions. The drive and parking area was to the rear of the house which was used day to day.
Following a review of the property layout and discussions with the client we proposed a substantial rear extension, carefully integrated into the existing house layout, to create a more attractive and balanced rear elevation. This was important as this was where the house was approached, rather than the formal front elevation. Detailed to match the existing house details and proportions the extension provided a new dining and utility area on the ground floor and a large master bedroom on the first floor with a bathroom and dressing room. Planning consent was gained and the extension is to be completed in the spring of 2014.
