Situated in an elevated position with sea views the aim of this project was to create a new open plan kitchen and living area in order to maximise the views and create a space to display the client’s art collection. The new floor plan provides a larger living space – kitchen, dining and living area, orientated to maximise the views. The layout was designed to create a space which would feel part of the original house design. This was achieved by the removal of two loadbearing walls which converted the original enclosed hallway into the new kitchen area and repositioning the staircase to create a single entrance lobby.
A new bespoke handmade kitchen was installed to our layout and new steel frame doors & windows specified and installed. The inherent strength of steel enabled us to minimise the frame dimensions and maximise the glazed area. The new limestone and wooden floor were carefully integrated to be level and avoid the need for unsightly door trims in the floor. In order to maintain the original character of the property the existing staircase reused in its new position. In contract and to maximise light and create a dramatic first floor landing a glass balustrade was designed, this was carefully detailed to hide any fixings and create a seamless junction detail.
